Draeger Residence - SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS

The Draeger residence was the hillside retreat of a very busy building contractor who enjoys the rustic, rough-hewn timber structures of the great WPA era national park lodges and the elegant log and timber homes of the new west as featured in Architectural Digest (usually the homes of celebrities in Montana). The site overlooked a large pasture surrounded by towering redwoods. The challenge here was to take full advantage of the views and the salt-air breezes, bringing together the finest notions of space planning with a desire for the primitive feel of peeled logs and fieldstone.
